OTMPC Contest Winners

Last winter Supertrax partnered with the Province of Ontario in a special “Win the Ride” contest. The Grand Prize was an all-expense paid trip where the winners rode with the crazies who produce the sport’s number one circulated, most read snowmobile enthusiast publication in North America.

From an entry standpoint the contest was an overwhelming success with entries surpassing all previous snowmobile contests promoted by OTMPC (Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership).

In late March we traveled to Kirkland Lake, Ontario and rode the famous TATA (Timiskaming Abitibi Trails Association) trail system for two days. “Win the Ride” Grand Prize winners were Steve and Darlene Forestell, Stephen Coady and David Brohman.

We were joined on the adventure by none other than the Snowtrax Television Crew of John Massingberd, Jeff Steenbakers and Dan Bailey for the event.

From OTMPC and associated Tourism Districts throughout the Province we enjoyed the company of Chris Hughes, Claude Aumont, Jennifer Rowe, Len Gillis and from Kirkland Lake, Mayor Bill Enouy and City Manager Don Studholme. Among the winners were two hardcore snowmobile enthusiasts and two casual riders.

The entire deal came off without a hitch while these lucky winners rode our sleds, ate free and had a blast with some of the nicest people we know – us.

Part of our visit to Kirkland Lake included a special private, after-hours visit to the brand new Hockey Heritage North. This multi-million dollar facility is a special treat for hockey enthusiasts and, in particular, those with a sense of Northern Ontario hockey history.

You can ride right to the door of Hockey Heritage North and enjoy a great afternoon or evening of entertainment within minutes of great accommodation and restaurants, all on-trail.

Blue Marble Introduces High Tech 4-stroke Oil

Press Release –

All oils rely on a protective barrier between the metal surfaces to provide adequate protection against wear and component failure.

Based on a pure mineral oil technology coupled to a proprietary additive package, Blue Marble oil breaks out away from tradition with a revolutionary approach to lubricating your engine that actually treats the metal.

Blue Marble REV-ER-UP 4-stroke oil disperses right into the working parts of your engine where the additive package creates a surface conversion that reduces friction and improves seal between moving parts to improve overall performance, efficiency and reliability under demanding off-road conditions.

Stop the TOP A Trail Closure in Kapuskasing

Press Release –

The Kap Sno Rovers are very disappointed in The Town of Kapuskasing’s decision to deny access for the snowmobile trail in front of the Kapuskasing Welcome Centre. The reason for the refusal of access is based on the spring condition of the sod in front of the Welcome Centre.

Kapuskasing is one of the most popular snowmobiling destinations in the Province of Ontario. The region has the longest snowmobling season in Ontario with an average of 15 weeks of snowmobiling.

This trail is the only link across Kapuskasing and to Kapuskasing businesses. The Kap Sno Rovers will have no choice but to reroute this trail which will bypass the Town of Kapuskasing completely. This means that the economic spinoff from snowmobiling tourists, which many local Kapuskasing businesses enjoy, will be almost nonexistant.

The Kap Sno Rovers approached the Town of Kapuskasing administration with positive solutions and offered to partner with the town in a mutually beneficial solution, but was denied by Council.

The Kap Sno Rovers requested a meeting with Council to explain their suggested possible solutions but were denied once again. As locallyminded volunteers, the Kap Sno Rovers are disappointed that their efforts to add to the recreational enjoyment and economics of the community are not being recognized by the Town of Kapuskasing Council.

Yamaha Takes 4-Stroke Challenge to Snocross

2006 WPSA Champion Robbie Malinoski and Boss Racing accept the challenge

Press Release –

Yamaha will return to snocross for the 2006/2007 World Power Sports Association (WPSA) national series with a factory supported effort competing in the Pro Open Class.

Yamaha has signed Boss Racing and superstar Robbie Malinoski, 2006 WPSA Pro Stock and Pro Open champion, to pilot its Nytro based, 3 cylinder, 4-stroke snocross Open Class sleds for this race season.

“We wanted a top-tier national driver to lead our testing program,” commented Yamaha Snowmobile Race Manager Greg Marier. “Robbie is a proven champion willing to take on the 4 stroke challenge in snocross. That’s exactly the attitude we wanted for the program. Our goals this year are simple: we want to prove our 4-stroke sled has the performance to be competitive, and we will use our snocross experience to improve future Yamaha snowmobiles.”

Also making a North American comeback is veteran racer and 2006 Japanese National Snocross Champion Yuji Nakazawa. Both racers will work out of the Yamaha / Boss Racing trailer, providing their engineering support team with constant feedback on the 4 stroke test sleds.

“We are aware of the hard work ahead,” added Marier. “But Yamaha has the courage to take the 4-stroke challenge to the highest level of sno-cross racing.”

Chasing Rainbows In Northern Ontario

It’s like Ontario’s Rainbow Country Tourist Region was created for couples. The southern boundary of Rainbow Country is the City of Parry Sound, about three hours north of Toronto on Highway 69. At the end of the drive – or rainbow – are some golden trails.

There are many attractions in this region, but the newest and biggest are two impressive snowmobile bridges spanning the French and Pickerel Rivers. It seemed wherever I was last winter, someone would ask if I had seen the bridges.

North of the bridges you’ll enter the legendary Broder Dill trail system. It had been years since I had ridden these trails which were great in the early ‘90s and are even better today. Broder Dill’s trails are part of the giant STP (Sudbury Trail Plan) system and it has been one of Ontario’s premiere riding destinations for over a decade.

If lakes aren’t your idea of fun, the trail system also allows you to travel around the waterways. However, the most frequently used lakes are well marked and the linking trails lead only to the safest entries and exits.

No man will deny, when traveling with your better half, clear directions are very, very important. There are plenty of easy-to-read maps and the trails are extremely user-friendly here.

Located just north of Lake Wanapitei is Wolf Mountain and on a clear day the view is incredible. The landscape goes on forever and gives you an idea of how rugged the Canadian Shield really is. The region is huge and in five days you can’t see it all so you’ll definitely have to come back again.

Shaun Crapo & Danny Poirier Join Team Polaris

Press Release –

Polaris Previews Strongest, Deepest Roster of Racers for Upcoming Snocross Season

Team Polaris Racing is in the midst of its most successful and productive off-season in recent years and has assembled the deepest roster of talented snocross racers who are hungry to win championships in the upcoming 2006-2007 race season.

So far, the impressive list of racers who will pilot a Polaris race sled has quite a bit of depth. It includes returning Team Polaris aces and newcomers to the Polaris brand who have cut their racing teeth and collected checkered flags on other brands of sleds.

“We need to keep everybody healthy but without a doubt we are the deepest manufacturer out there, there’s no doubt about it, especially with the addition of Shaun Crapo,” said Team Polaris Racing Manager Tom Rager, Sr.

Idaho native Crapo raced on Polaris sleds early in his career and competed as a Pro in recent seasons on Arctic Cat sleds. He has an East Coast counterpart in Danny Poirier, who is stepping off Ski-Doos to race on Polaris sleds for the Cycle Worx team on the Rock Maple Racing circuit.

“I’m just really excited to be back with Polaris,” said Crapo. “Everyone there is just great to work with, the team has a lot more depth and no doubt we’ll be a strong team this season.”
