Abitibi-Temiscamingue Is A Winter Wonderland

Abitibi-Temiscamingue on the western border of Quebec is one of those tightly kept secrets we’re finally letting out. Cold weather and snow come early in Abitibi-Temiscamingue, allowing the local clubs to build an impeccable trail system before the traffic arrives.

Many who’ve ridden in this part of Quebec have commented the biggest advantage is its lack of snowmobile traffic. Sometimes you can ride for miles and never see another snowmobile. Truth is the trail network is so vast it can handle loads of sleds without seeming overly busy.

Comprised of eleven clubs grooming over 2,000 miles of trails, the volunteers take grooming very seriously. It’s a very passionate and dedicated group and the proof is in the quality of the trails.

Around the perimeter of this region are seven cities and towns catering enthusiastically to snowmobilers. Numerous hotels and motels are integrated into the trail grid providing the option to ride right to the hotel door and if you’re looking for seclusion there’s a large selection of picturesque resorts and lodges nestled deeper into the landscape. These wilderness retreats offer a unique style of hospitality found only in Quebec.

The Abitibi-Temiscamingue Tourism Region is located in Northwestern Quebec approximately a six hour drive from the US border. Package tours are available ranging in length from four days (400 miles) to six days (575 miles).

As a team-builder, Bruce will work to renew organizational pride and enhance team spirit with a “How can we help?” approach. On behalf of the Board, Bruce extended heartfelt appreciation to retiring President Dennis Burns for his six years of OFSC leadership and accomplishment.

Together with OFSC General Manager Paul Shaughnessy, the new Executive forms the Executive Committee (EXCOM), which is empowered by the Board to conduct the general business of the OFSC as set out by through its policies, procedures and budgets.

Wyoming Snowy Mountains – Deep Snow, Warm Welcome

Laramie Wyoming makes a great kick-off point for a spectacular winter mountain run in the nearby Snowy Range.

The recently renovated and modernized Snowy Mountain Lodge located about 40 minutes up the hill on hwy 130 west out of Laramie has the right combination of rustic and comfortable amenities for any visit.

The Snowy Range pops out of eastern Wyoming’s high plains to capture lots of passing winter weather in a close-coupled and remarkably high area of the Medicine-Bow National Forest. There are 195 miles of carefully groomed trails here and another 120 miles of signed but ungroomed routes plus an untold number of big open meadows and freelance shortcuts to keep you busy for days.

On our many visits to the area, we’ve always had spectacular weather with lots of sunshine. While it can get stormy like any mountain region, the weather moves fast so you won’t get cabin fever and we recommend a day trip to Medicine Bow Lodge for lunch.

Veteran visitors know there are a long list of other options too as many of the dude ranches in the area are year-round and offer true luxury in a stunning variety. Plus, the range town of Albany has new accommodations, a new snowmobile rental & repair shop and more.

Chaudiere-Appalaches – Just Across the Border

There are few places better than Chaudiere-Appalaches, Quebec. With a 1700 mile, beautifully groomed trail network and an extended riding season, this region offers a fabulous riding experience.

For those living in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts or New York, the trip to this region is easily accessible and offers the opportunity to leave your vehicle and trailer on the US side of the border and cross into Canada by snowmobile via Maine’s northwest state line. Once across, you’ll hook up with Chaudiere-Appalaches trails immediately.

Canadians can drive to Quebec City and stay at one of the inner city hotels or in the suburbs where vehicle parking is readily available. Rental snowmobiles are readily available in Quebec City, for those who prefer to rent rather than trailer their own sleds.

There’s plenty of exciting riding here, whether or not you want to ride fast or just stop and smell the roses along the way. The region is big but not so vast you and your wife couldn’t comfortably do a saddlebag trip covering the breadth and width of it in a few days.

You can book ahead from any one of the many resorts or inns where they will schedule your next night’s accommodation in advance. A long list of places cooperate together to create an ideal trail route linking the best and most reasonably priced overnights.

BRP Expands Dealer Network in Europe

Press Release –

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) is marking a new phase of its international development by reinforcing its presence in European markets.

Starting in the fall, BRP will establish direct commercial operations in Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and Ireland, where Jets Marivent has served as its distributor.

The shareholders of Jets Marivent have agreed to sell the company to an affiliate of BRP and as of October 1, 2006, BRP will distribute its products directly through its own dealer network in the aforementioned countries. Until that date, BRP products will continue to be supported in these markets by Jets Marivent.

Following BRP’s decision to establish its own dealer network in France in 2005, this move constitutes the second phase of its European growth strategy.

BRP has already established dealer networks in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Japan, France and Scandinavia and has been present in Europe for over 30 years, with manufacturing facilities in Austria (BRP-Rotax) and in Finland (BRP-Finland).

Jets Marivent has been importing and marketing BRP products in Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and Ireland since 1993. Over the years, they have greatly contributed to building strong brand equity for the BRP product brands in all their markets.

“Along with our dealers and business partners, we built this business from the ground up, starting out with only two models of Sea-Doo personal watercraft (PWC) in Spain over 10 years ago,” said Oliver Fröls, founder and president of Jets Marivent. “Today, Jets Marivent distributes the entire line-up of Sea-Doo PWC and sport boats, Can-Am ATVs, Evinrude and Johnson outboard engines and a wide variety of accessories. This would not have been possible without the experience and business support of our dealers, and BRP’s excellent product innovation and continuous support,'” added Mr. Fröls.

This decision affects all Sea-Doo personal watercraft and sport boats, Can-Am all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), Evinrude and Johnson outboard engines, as well as related parts, accessories and clothing businesses. All BRP products will continue to be available in Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and Ireland, thus reaffirming BRP’s objective to offer its customers the ultimate motorized recreational experience.

“Over time, we firmly believe that this decision will provide significant benefits to dealers and consumers in these markets, including increased efficiency in customer service and logistics support as well as branding, product positioning and market responsiveness,” concluded Michel Hade, vice-president and general manager, BRP International Sales and Marketing.

Both Jets Marivent and BRP are committed to ensuring a smooth transition to maximize continuity of business as usual for everyone involved.

F-Chassis No Ordinary Platform

Arctic Cat’s new “Twin Spar” F-chassis is no ordinary platform.

Robotically assembled without a single weld, using ultra-modern self piercing rivets, this new chassis has the ability to hold both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines while providing what we believe is the most versatile ergonomic package ever offered.

The chassis comes in myriad variants but has a number of important constants.

First, it’s fully rider forward with a few twists. Second, the Twin Spar uses ACT Diamond Drive exclusively and its planetary system only exists with reverse in 2007.

You read it right, every F-chassis goes backwards – no exceptions.

Bombardier ATV becomes Can-Am

Press Release –

Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) launches its 2007 all-terrain vehicle (ATV) line-up and re-brands its ATV products to Can Am™. The Can Am name recaptures the spirit of BRP’s unequalled performance, superb handling and advanced design that are unique in the industry. In June 2005, BRP unveiled its new ATV strategy, shifting its focus to ATV and powersports enthusiasts.

“We believe the Can Am brand better represents the positioning of our products in the marketplace and provides the perfect platform to reach out to and attract powersports enthusiasts,” said José Boisjoli, president and chief executive officer, BRP.

BRP made its debut in the ATV market in 1997. By 1999, the Traxter® was named “ATV of the Year” by ATV Magazine. In 2003, BRP became the first and only manufacturer to offer a full line-up of ATVs designed for two riders.

In 2005, the Outlander™ 800 H.O. EFI was introduced and reaffirmed BRP’s commitment to making products with powersports enthusiasts in mind. Since then, the Outlander has been the company’s rising star and flagship model, embodying power, performance and a truly exhilarating ride.

Last September, BRP introduced the Outlander 650 H.O. EFI in North America and it, too, received great ratings. Today, BRP achieves yet another milestone in its ATV strategy: the revival of the Can Am brand, which further reinforces the company’s commitment to ATV enthusiasts.

BRP’s category-leading Ski Doo® and Sea Doo® products have demonstrated its passion for innovative and market-shaping products. That same spirit, which was also behind the original creation and triumph of Can Am in the mid-70’s, comes alive again through the 2007 Can Am ATV line-up.

“Can Am is part of our history, our heritage and our future,” concluded Boisjoli. “For BRP, Ski Doo and Lynx™ mean snowmobiles; Sea Doo, watercraft and sport boats; Evinrude, outboard engines. Can Am will, from now on, mean ATVs.”
