Big Project – Need Advice

Question:

I purchased a 07′ rear skidframe without shocks from a F1000 to put into my 01′ ZR 800.

Besides the 128″ track and front slide rail and bushings, is there anything else I need to make the change to this machine?? i.e. track drivers.

Would you be able to advise on the Hole locations for the new skidframe??

Joe

Response:

Thanks for your email!

Wow! You’re into a major deal here!

First, it is imperative you locate the skid in the proper altitude or the sliding front-arm will not work properly. I have no idea how you would do this as I’ve not heard of anyone who has tried a 07 128 FFA skid in a ZR chassis. I would refer you to a performance shop if I knew of one which had experience with this – but as of this writing, I do not.

For sure – at the very minimum – you must ensure the stagger between the front arm bolt holes in the tunnel and the rear arm mounting plate centers are identical. My advice is to seek out someone who may have had experience doing this already. We’ll post this and maybe someone will come back with some details on how to make this work properly.

Thanks,

Motorhead Mark

How Can I Get More Power From My 600 Switchback?

Question:

I am looking to get more power from my 2007 600 CFI Switchback without voiding my 4yr warranty.

I see Polaris offers the exhaust silencer and EPI clutch kit. Are either of these going to help, or am I going to have to wait?

Just wondering if they will give me some HP and how much if any? Or… or… should I wait a year and hope Polaris comes out with a 800 Dragon Switchback.

From the sounds of it, the 800 motor is pretty sick.

Thanks,

kyle

Response:

Thanks for your email!

Seriously, you’re the first guy I’ve heard from who thinks his CF 600 Polaris Liberty needs “more power”. Cough.

Sure, you can bolt on some stuff but you’re already hanging onto the hottest 600 class Rooster – hands down.

Yes, the new 800 is sick. We fully expect a 136 SB version to be a part of the 2009 line-up. In the meantime, there is a limited run of 121 800’s and from what we hear the line-up is way-long to get one.

I wouldn’t mess around with your CF 600 – I’d enjoy roosting my Buds and then threaten them with the promise you’re looking at a 2009 800 SB.

WPSA ANNOUNCES SARNIA EVENT

RYDEFX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SNOCROSS CO-SANCTIONED BY CSRA

Press Release –

The WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour, along with Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA), will host a national Snocross race Feb. 22-23-24 in Sarnia, Ontario.

The RydeFX World Championship Snocross represents Round 8 of the 10-race 2007-2008 PowerSports Snowmobile Tour.

“We’re pleased to announce our first visit to Ontario in several years,” said PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. President Scott O’Malley. “This event is situated in a perfect market for Snocross Racing and the local community has voiced strong support for the event. In addition, it’s exciting to work with our friends at the CSRA.”

“We’ve been looking for opportunities to team up with WPSA, and we’re very excited to an-nounce this event,” said Ken Avann, CSRA president. “Sarnia is central to some of the top rec-reational snowmobile areas in all of Canada, so this is certain to be a successful event.”

The racing weekend is being sponsored by shock absorber manufacturer RydeFX. ArvinMeritor Ride Control Products, which produces RydeFX High Performance Shocks, has been a global manufacturer of OEM and replacement shock absorbers for nearly half a century.

RydeFX has been the largest OEM supplier to the snowmobile market for decades, in addition to being a major supplier to the ATV, Personal Watercraft, and Motorcycle industry.

Winter Starts In November In Abitibi!

Press Release –

Once again Ronald Cantin and Mont Kanasuta have teamed up to organise the 7th “Grand Prix Sno-X COORS LIGHT”.

The event includes 3 days of “training and testing” and 2 days of racing for the pilots who will most probably touch snow for the first time of the year.

Marcel Fontaine of SCM will provide the required ISM sanction and will manage the race. Last year more than $8,000 was distributed to the winners.

The track is scheduled to open on Wednesday, Nov 14. The race will be held on Nov 17 and 18. Last year event had been delayed due to the lack of snow, so this year event already include a back-up date (Dec 1, 2).

70 racers were present last year but more than 150 should be present this year, mainly because it’s their first opportunity to train for the Duluth race.

Pro X Problems

Question:

I have a Pro X 440 Fan cooled and have rebuilt the engine twice. I’m thinking of putting a 550 cylinder on it. would changing the cylinders cause the engine to break as much?

Tyson

Response:

Thanks for your email!

I suggest you check to see if you can simply throw 550 cylinders on the 440 without changing the exhaust, CDI box and intake – in particular the carburetion and jetting.

As well, clutching will absolutely have to be changed to make the package work. I think you’re into something that will be very costly for very little return.

Motorhead Mark

So what would be my best solution? My 440 engine blew up this winter and instead of buying new 440 Cylinder I want to buy 550 cylinders that I hope will last longer.

Tyson

Okay, here’s my advice – don’t buy 550 cylinders. Stick with the 440 jugs and make sure you put the thing together right. Use isopropyl alcohol in every tank of fuel and run good oil ensuring your pump is properly calibrated (the timing marks on the lever are aligned with the indicator on the pump).

That’s the best answer I’ve got for you.

Snowmobile Community Opens Arms to Newcomers

Press Release –

The 2007-2008 weather outlook for North America, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, is for a colder than normal winter for much of North America with snowier than normal conditions expected.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, Mother Nature is going to keep many of us on our toes.  The Almanac promises a change from last year.  The Almanac goes on to report that Mother Nature will be showing little mercy and the temperatures should begin to drop soon, with snow to follow.

With the Farmer’s Almanac forecast in mind, nobody is more excited about this winter’s snowmobiling possibilities than organized snowmobilers.  This winter holds some great potential for improved snowmobiling and expanded opportunities for snowmobilers to Take a Friend Snowmobiling.

At the International Snowmobile Congress held in June 2007 the International Snowmobile Media Council initiated a unique partnership with the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association and other snowmobile community members in the development of the Take a Friend Snowmobiling campaign.

The campaign has been developed while considering the snowmobile manufacturers Go Snowmobiling research, which shows that non-snowmobilers have an extremely strong desire to go snowmobiling.  As a matter of fact, when asked how they would rate their desire to go snowmobiling, non-snowmobilers across the snowbelt reported an interest of 9 on a scale of 1-10 expressing their interest level to “go snowmobiling.”

Snowmobilers are social folk who enjoy each others company and enjoy the great outdoors in the winter.  This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to take a non-snowmobiling friend snowmobiling and get to know them better on the snow and encourage them to join one of our unique snowmobile clubs and associations.

Throughout the winter the International Snowmobile Media Council members will be promoting the Take a Friend Snowmobiling idea and concepts to snowmobile clubs and associations.

Many snowmobile associations are planning special rides where they will invite non-snowmobilers for a snowmobile ride.  Some clubs and associations are already inviting local politicians and news media (radio, TV and print) to Go Snowmobiling.

The best way to explain WHY we snowmobile is to actually Take a Friend Snowmobiling.  We know how much FUN it is and once our new and old friends go snowmobiling, they’ll be part of our team.

The manufacturers collectively and individually, as well as the dealer body, are supporting the Take a Friend/Go Snowmobiling efforts.  Through the ISMA Grant Program, opportunities are available for state/provincial associations to receive financial support in coordinating an effective Take a Friend Snowmobiling event.

There are many opportunities and the ideas are limitless.  Knowing how important the weather is and how many of us watch our favorite weather person on TV, I recommend we all contact our favorite weatherman (weather woman in most cases) and take him or her snowmobiling.

Once we get the weather people on a snowmobile with us, the next time they forecast a winter storm, they will do so with a smile – not a frown.
