Shift Gear: Shocks

0

Ryde FX Air 2.0 Shocks

These absolutely beautiful IFS shocks make one of the most tangible improvements to a new Shift.

The stock steel body coil-over shocks are adequate (cough) but if you’re prone to ripping up ditches and ride aggressively on trails, there’s nothing better than the Air 2.0.

A unique dual chamber air design eliminates typical air shock low speed sticking allowing the shaft to move smoothly through its stroke.

Their all-aluminum design and lack of coil springs reduces unsprung weight, plus they add a big shot of drool factor.

Equipped with a fill valve, the Air 2.0 can be dialed in to suit rider specifics with a special air pump available from Ryde FX.

Hibbert Dominates West Yellowstone National

Press Release –

Tucker Hibbert and his Monster Energy/Arctic Cat dominated the World PowerSports Association Snowmobile Tour’s Jack Link’s West Yellowstone National. Hibbert was no stranger to the area as he began his snowmobile racing career at West Yellowstone and was born in the nearby town of Driggs, Idaho.

Hibbert grabbed the number one qualifying spot for the Pro Super Stock final and was untouchable all 12 laps. He led every single lap and finished nearly ten seconds ahead of second place, Arctic Cat’s #67 Ryan Simons.

It was the first race of the season on a 100% natural snow track but heavy snowfall and poor visibility prematurely shut down Sunday’s racing, forcing the team’s and track crew to stick around to finish the remaining races Monday morning.

With the sun shining and below zero temperatures, 15 riders hit the track for the Pro Open final. With a nearly last place start in the 14-lap final, Hibbert put his head down, rode mistake free and passed first place, Ryan Simons, on lap ten for the win.

Hibbert and Monster Energy/Arctic Cat are on their way to Aspen, Colo. for the biggest race of the season, ESPN’s Winter X Games 12. This year marks the ninth appearance for the six-time medalist at the Winter X Games and a shot for his third gold medal. Look for Hibbert to continue his winning streak Saturday night live on ESPN.

Tucker Hibbert – #68 Monster Energy/Arctic Cat

“It was awesome to get my first stock/open sweep of the season and was great to be back in West Yellowstone. These wins give the team and myself so much confidence and extra motivation heading into the Winter X Games this week. Being able to come from behind in the Pro Open final and to win by a good margin really helps me mentally because now I know I can run down the field if I need to. With a 20 lap final event in Aspen, I know no matter where I am off the start I can fight my way to the front.”

Polaris Claims 72% of Podium at Canterbury

Press Release –

Polaris racers found the busy schedule at the Air Force Canterbury Snocross to their liking on the weekend of January 11-13, as they won two of the four Pro classes and both Semi-Pro classes, establishing Polaris racers as the points leaders in three of the four premier WPSA classes.

Pro racers ran a double-points weekend at the Shakopee, Minnesota, race track, with finals in Pro Open and Pro Super Stock on Friday the 11th and Sunday, January 13.

How dominant were Polaris racers at Canterbury? In Pro and Semi-Pro racing, racers on the Polaris IQ Race Sleds earned 13 of 18 podium positions – that’s 72% of the podium spots filled by riders on one brand: Polaris.

By comparison, Arctic Cat racers reached the podium four times, and one Ski-Doo racer earned a third-place finish for that brand’s lone trip to the podium in the six Pro and Semi-Pro events.

Pro Super Stock was the only major class in which Polaris racers didn’t claim victory, yet Polaris racers dominate the class’s points race after two of eight WPSA national events.

“We’ve got some work to do in Pro Super Stock, but our guys still raced hard and have themselves in good positions in the points,” said Polaris Racing Manager Tom Rager, Sr. “Our race teams are gelling and we’re optimistic as we head into a very busy month of racing.”

There are four WPSA National events in the next five weeks, plus the non-points but extremely high-profile ESPN Winter X Games.

Pro Open: Ross Martin & TJ Gulla Swap Victories

In Pro Open racing at Canterbury, Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports) and TJ Gulla (Hentges Racing) each won and each finished second.

In the Friday Pro Open final, Polaris racers finished 1-2-3 with Gulla winning, Martin in second and Dennis Eckstrom (Scheuring Speed Sports) completing the Polaris podium. Polaris racers took five of the top seven positions in the class on Friday, and on Sunday, Martin won and Gulla took second.

The Polaris Pro Open dominance is reflected in the points standings, where Martin, Gulla and Eckstrom stand 1-3, respectively, while Levi LaVallee (Hentges Racing) is fifth and Shaun Crapo (Scheuring Speed Sports) is sixth.

Pro Super Stock: Filling the Top 10

Polaris racers might not have claimed a win in Pro Super Stock on the weekend, but they took three of the top six places on Friday (with Eckstrom taking second) and they packed the top 10 on Sunday, finishing second through seventh. Seven of the top nine finishers Sunday were Polaris racers.

This strong showing by Polaris racers in Pro Super Stock is reflected in the points standings, where Martin is in second, followed by Eckstrom (third), Mike Schultz of Avalanche Racing (fourth), Gulla (fifth), Crapo (seventh) and LaVallee (10th).

Semi-Pro Open: Polaris Packs the Podium

Chris Kafka (Hentges Racing), Andrew Johnstad (Avalanche Racing ) and Bobby LePage (Hentges Racing) finished 1-2-3, respectively, in Semi-Pro Open and six Polaris racers finished in the top eight spots.

The fast-rising Polaris racers could not be more dominant in Semi-Pro Open points, where they occupy the top five positions with LePage in first followed in order by Johnstad, Dylan Martin (Judnick Motorsports), Kafka and Brett Bender (Hentges Racing) – and Mike Bauer is in seventh.

Semi-Pro Super Stock: Another 1-2 Finish

In one of the best weekends of his young career, Andrew Johnstad won the Semi-Pro Super Stock class to complement his second place finish in Semi-Pro Open. Brett Bender took second in Super Stock to put himself atop the points standings after two races. LePage is third in points, followed by Johnstad (fourth), Kafka (sixth), Bauer (seventh) and Dylan Martin (eighth).

Pro Women Super Stock: Still Tops in Points

Defending Pro Women’s champion Kylie Abrahamson (Avalanche Racing ) didn’t have the weekend she hoped for at Canterbury – she finished fourth Pro Women’s Super Stock – but it was enough for her to maintain a one-point lead heading into the upcoming busy month of racing.

Sport Classes: Two More Victories

Polaris racers finished 1-2-3 in Sport Super Stock 2, with Derek Ellis earning the win followed by Andy Lieders in second and Joseph Fallen in third. Nichole Lackore won the Sport Women class at Canterbury.

Hibbert Sweeps Pro Stock at Canterbury

Press Release –

Round two of the World Powersports Snowmobile Tour at Canterbury Raceway in Shakopee, Minn., ended with Team Arctic racers delivering several punches to the competition, including knockouts by Tucker Hibbert in both Pro Super Stock finals.

In addition to those two emphatic victories, Team Arctic racers compiled five class victories and 14 podium positions.

“I’m so proud of our racers, who continue to win more than their share of the finals and podium spots,” said Team Arctic Race Manager Russ Ebert.

“Our team isn’t as large as a couple others, but the dedication of our racers and performance of our new Sno Pro 600 race sled more than make up for it.”

Indeed, in just the second WPSA National of the season, Hibbert piloted the Sno Pro to its first Pro class win, and then backed it up with another stock class win during the double-header weekend.

Team Arctic’s Ryan Simons and Carl Schubitzke backed him up with a third and fourth in one of the finals.

“It feels awesome to get a pair of wins for Arctic Cat on the new race sled,” said Hibbert, who is also sponsored by Monster Energy. “It’s a testament to how hard everyone has worked to develop it. To leave Canterbury with the stock class sweep is great.”

Additional class victories were claimed by Cody Thomsen, Jacob Muller, Levi Tipcke, Andrew Carlson and Trent Wittwer.

A broken collarbone suffered by Schubitzke during the double header tempered the excitement of the weekend.

“Carl will be out for most of the season,” said Ebert. “That’s a tough blow to Carl and to the team. It puts added pressure on the guys to place well at the WPSA National in West Yellowstone next weekend, and at the ESPN X Games the following week.”

OFSC Declares Family Day for Snowmobiling

Press Release –

What better way to enjoy Ontario’s new Family Day statutory holiday in the middle of winter than to go snowmobiling?

So the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) has officially declared the third Monday in February as “OFSC Go Snowmobiling Family Day”.

The OFSC invites all Ontarians to celebrate Ontario’s first Family Day, February 18th, from the seat of a snowmobile and welcomes families to try OFSC trails.

“We join the Province of Ontario in embracing the idea of family day because snowmobiling originated as a special family activity, and families who love winter remain the core of our volunteer base and ridership,“ said Bruce Robinson, the OFSC president who hales from a snowmobiling family in Kemptville. “My vision for Go Snowmobiling Family Day is that OFSC trails will be full of families having fun and sharing a memorable winter adventure that can only be had while snowmobiling.”

OFSC membership currently comprises more than 150,000 family riders who enjoy Ontario’s winter wonderland by snowmobiling on 40,000 km. of OFSC trails.

Many of these riders reside in small town and rural Ontario, but numerous urban families also enjoy OFSC trails. 75% of OFSC snowmobile owners are married.

The average snowmobile family has 0.8 children living at home. These family folks appreciate snowmobiling because it gets their family outdoors together and provides a shared experience that keeps parents and kids together.

Many family participants are multigenerational, with grandparents, their kids and grandchildren continuing to ride together.

The OFSC promotes family riding through 235 local snowmobile clubs that serve their home communities. One prime example of this family-orientation is the annual Snowarama rides hosted by many OFSC clubs for the Easter Seal Society of Ontario.

To date, OFSC clubs have raised $16.5 million to support children with physical disabilities and their families.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is dedicated to providing strong leadership and support to member clubs and volunteers, to establishing and maintaining quality snowmobile trails which are used in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, and to furthering the enjoyment of organized snowmobiling.

Lucky Snocross Fan Headed To Las Vegas

Press Release –

After receiving thousands of entry forms at the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour Air Force Canterbury Snocross this past January 11-13, 2008, at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota, the results have been tallied.

Mike Ness from Fertile, Minnesota, is the lucky winner of the trip for two to Las Vegas to see the NASCAR UAW Dodge 400 in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 2, 2008. The trip is courtesy of KFC Honey BBQ Hot Wings, Arctic Cat and Christian Brothers Racing (CBR).

Ness dropped his entry form in the box at the CBR booth this past weekend and his name was picked from the pile during the drawing before the Pro final on Sunday, January 13. Semi-Pro snocross rider and Fertile-Beltrami High School grad Andrew Johnstad had the honor of picking the winner while he stood on the podium after his second place finish in Semi-Pro Open Sunday.

“We received a lot of entries,” said CBR co-owner Dwight Christian. “A lot of people who stopped by thought it was too good to be true, but once we let them know it was legit they couldn’t get their entry forms filled out fast enough. It was an exciting contest.”

Ness will fly out of Minneapolis for sunny Las Vegas, Nevada, February 28 and return March 3, 2008. Ness’ air fare, hotel and race tickets are all courtesy of KFC Honey BBQ Hot Wings, Arctic Cat and CBR.

It’s a race fan’s dream come true and this lucky snocross fan should have the time of his life.
