And if that is not enough terrain to cover for you, the tour heads to New York for the 7th Annual New York event with a new venue on the beautiful trails of Olde Forge and Inlet area. Then we hook up the Triton Trailer and go cross country to Wisconsin for amazing winding trails and beautiful lakes of the Eagle River area.

Completing the tour is the Celebrity Snow Run event at Togwotee Mountain Lodge in Wyoming. The tour provides the ultimate snowmobiling experiences with trail riding for every ability to mountain scenery and untouched snow in Wyoming saved just for the PRR Tour every year!

The Tour also consists of appearances at trade shows and grass roots appearances throughout the USA and included recently was a stop to be filmed for the Outdoor Channel with the famous tv personality Brian Fisher of Fisher’s ATV World!

The Snow Run events consists of two (2) days of fun including an organized snowmobile ride that is open to both men and women, dinner banquet, auctions and lots of fun! Participants are encouraged to raise pledges through an optional pledge program that has been teamed with amazing sponsors that provide gifts for pledge level winners. A top fundraiser award is also given.

And if you cannot make one of the events this year, the PRR are challenging you to “Ride in honor and in memory” of a loved one with the “Riders Challenge.”

The Riders Challenge incorporates riding that you are already doing and tying it to those in need! A cool way to help the Pink Ribbon Riders create awareness but at the same time raise funds for the over 1,000 men and women that will apply to the PRR for direct financial assistance this year.

Smaller Displacement Sleds Could Be The Future

0

If you’ve been observing the automobile industry and the most recent requirements for fuel consumption compliance, you’ll see a trend toward radically smaller displacement engines across the board and in some cases the use of turbochargers to gain sufficient power levels commensurate with current naturally aspirated V8s.

For instance, Ford’s new EcoBoost V6 will be used in the 2012 F-150 Series trucks to replace the current 5.4 and 4.6 V8s.

This turbocharged V6 makes huge power, even compared to the 8-cylinder engines it replaces and gets incredible gas mileage.

The recently introduced Chevy Cruze offers s 1.4 liter engine, small by even small car standards and its turboed version is even smaller. There are many more such “tiny” engines being developed for production within the next two years.

The question for our sport is this: Will snowmobile displacement levels be limited in the future?

The whiplash from the car business is usually only a couple of years until it carries over to powersport segments.

Five years from now, a 600 2-stroke may be the max you can buy and an 800 4-stroke with a turbo may constitute maximum power for your sled.

It’s not really that bad but you gotta ask: What if????

Are Snowmobilers Just a Bunch of Suckers?

0

You’re fully aware by now of the snowmobile industry’s huge investment the last eight years in conforming to EPA requirements for exhaust emissions.

The manufacturers have done an outstanding job of leaping through government hoops to get snowmobiles cleaned up to unprecedented levels.

Legislation that once spelled the end of the 2-stroke engine, because of incredible innovation like SDI and direct injection, has guaranteed the longevity of the 2-stroke for many more years. This has been at considerable expense to both the OEM and the consumer (have you noticed sleds are more expensive? Nah.).

Here’s the rub: Despite the fact the snowmobile industry has done everything possible to conform to every wish of the green politicos, the next thing coming is an increase in ethanol content in fuel from 10 percent to 15 percent.

Actually, the longer-term goal is to have ethanol levels boosted to 50 percent. As of yet there has been little or no government investment in studying the destructive effects this will have on engine and fuel transmission components in virtually every vehicle made prior to 2010.

The greenies are pushing for this and it could mean you’ll be paying severe costs to convert or repair your sled in the too-near future.

BRP releases its Ski-Doo snowmobiles Winner’s Circle contingency program for 2010 – 2011 today as the first major race is set for the coming weekend.

The program features coverage in the most popular racing classes, and a new twist – contingency for vintage racing.

Rewards ranging from $200 to $10,000 will be paid to winning racers on Ski-Doo snowmobiles every weekend throughout the winter race season, with a wallet-bulging $15,000 for a win at the ESPN Winter X Games.

Highlights include:

– $10,000 for Stock King of the Hill at Jackson Hole World Championship Hill Climb
– $10,000 for Pro 600 class at USCC I-500 cross country race
– $6,000 for Pro 600 class at Iron Dog cross country race
– $5,000 for Champ 440 class at Eagle River World Championship ice oval race
– $5,000 for Champ 440 class at Valcourt Grand Prix ice oval race

Vintage racing has been growing steadily over the past ten years and now boasts some of the largest entry lists of any type of snowmobile racing.

In recognition of this, BRP supports the vintage racers with cash rewards at two of the biggest events, the USCC I-500 cross country race and the Eagle River World Championship ice oval race. With the chance to claim $750 in several classes, the action will get even better both for the racers and the fans.

More information on BRP’s Ski-Doo snowmobiles can be found at www.ski-doo.com. Information and contingency forms will be available on the X-Team page by November 24.

Will Ski-Doo Build a 160-hp 4-stroke?

0

With Yamaha pretty much reigning as the 4-stroke high performance kings of the snowmobile industry, we’re curious to see if Ski-Doo is poised to step up and deliver a 160-plus horse 4-stroke soon.

The new Apex currently generates about 163 ponies without a turbo or a supercharger.

This is pretty substantial power and, when you mix in the incredible torque a 4-stroke delivers, it would be difficult for a competitor to match it.

Ski-Doo’s 1170cc 4-TEC triple is an interesting candidate for matching the Apex’s power output.

The 4-TEC is currently a fairly under-stressed engine generating about 130hp with a single throttle body and pretty tame cam timing.

We’ve asked several engineers if this engine is capable of putting out power at the next level and they unequivocally claim it can (this usually means they’ve already built one).

We think there’s a possibility the next generation of the 4-TEC could be a naturally aspirated engine of the same displacement with three throttle bodies and different pistons, cams and valves.

Originally, we thought this mill would need a turbo etc, to get to these power levels but it looks like the power potential is already there and most certainly, the cost to produce a high output 4-stroke would be kept in check if the engine was naturally aspirated.

SNOW HITS TWIN CITIES AREA

0

Check out this link to ArcticInsider.com and see John Sandberg’s pics of the first snow of the season.

Eight inches was dropped on the ground a week ago last Sunday, November 14. This is a great early sign of winter in Minnesota and to have this much snowfall this early bodes well for a long season. We are SO jealous!

Haven’t heard if the weather “milded up” and if the snow is still around but as you can see from these photos, some people took full advantage and began stacking up odometer klicks early.

C’mon winter!!!!!!
