BRP Makes Improvements To Boots

0

BRP has modified the fit and performance of its Helium and Holeshot boots based on consumer and dealer feedback from the 2010/11 snowmobile season.

Both boot models feature a more vertical upper section compared to the forward slant seen in 2010/11 providing a more comfortable position when riding and walking for most users.

The layers of material used to construct the boots have been changed to provide more flexibility and easier movement.

“At BRP, it’s important our customers know we’re listening to their feedback and always improving our clothing and accessories, just like we would with our snowmobiles.” said Alain Dionne, Marketing Manager for Parts, Accessories and Clothing.

Another update will be a redesign in the gusset area (along the front lacing system and tongue) to prevent water/snow intrusion when leaning back or extending the foot.

SUPERTRAX SPEAKS UP ON THE NEW PROCROSS

0

There’s one thing for certain: The new ProCross Cat is completely unlike anything Arctic Cat has built before.

You could argue the 500 Sno-Pro or pure race sleds Cat has been building are pretty close but this one is much more refined and on target with a huge cross-section of the marketplace.

Its design parameters are focused on lightness, simplicity, ease of manufacture and, most importantly, a return to the Ginsu-knife handling Cat was famous for in the late Nineties.

Any market space the company had given up the last five years is targeted to be reclaimed with a product able to deliver on all aspects of snowmobiling.

Because Cat has virtually led the industry in skidframe design, ride became a perfect foundation to build from. However, the Twin Spar platform, although greatly refined from its earliest versions, was never reputed for its precise handling or lightness – two features modern snowmobile buyers simply don’t want to give up.

Another strength Cat had initiated with the former Twin Spar was ergonomic adjustability and comfort.

Adjustable seat, adjustable handlebars – those priorities had endeared consumers to the brand and prior to this ride we had questioned if the company would be willing to compromise those benefits in order to control mass.

Our first impression of this new Cat is its intuitive ergonomics. It feels absolutely right, sitting or standing. The relationship between the handlebars, footrests, seat and controls is 100-percent spot-on excellent.

The handlebar riser is perfect, the seat foam is just right and the seat itself is high enough so moving from sitting to a standing position can be done in a nanosecond.

You feel centered on the snowmobile, much like a Ski-Doo XP or a Polaris RUSH, but there’s a near-perfect balance to the riding position that just flat-out inspires confidence.

rMotion Means Rising Rate

0

The big 2012 news from Ski-Doo is in the acronym “R-Motion”. We think it’s an acronym but we’re not sure exactly what the “R” stands for.

We’re guessing “Rising Rate”. However, there’s more to the new skid than just this one element. R-Motion increases suspension over the former SC-5 and ends up leading the industry with the most real rail travel (not rear tire travel) without increasing ride height one millimeter.

We would have thought, after all the variations we’ve seen on the ubiquitous snowmobile skidframe, the potential for packaging shocks, springs and swingarms would be completely maxed out.

The R-Motion gets more travel out of the same ride-height by allowing the entire package to collapse deeper into the tunnel.

How deep? The XP’s running boards are now one inch off white-top when the skid is bottomed out front and rear.

This increase in travel is mated with a true rising rate response to impacts when measured at the rear arm shock absorber.

Keep in mind, Polaris’ claim to true rising rate suspension comes by moving the shock and rear arm spring out of the tunnel. Ski-Doo gets true rising rate response with the shock inside the tunnel.

The twist and the root of inevitable arguments to follow, is the issue of the R-Motion’s torsion springs. By their very nature they are not fully rising rate through the entire range of travel.

Doesn’t matter to us. What does matter is the ride.

Polaris to Acquire Global Electric Motorcars LLC

Provides future growth opportunities within the low-emission small vehicle market

Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII) today announced an agreement to acquire Global Electric Motorcars LLC (GEM), a wholly owned Fargo, N.D. based subsidiary of Chrysler Group LLC and manufacturer of premium electric-powered vehicles.

GEM is the recognized leader within the low-speed vehicle market, with a well-respected brand and approximately $30 million in sales during the 2010 calendar year.

Since the company was established in 1998, they have placed over 45,000 electric-powered vehicles on the road worldwide.

GEM has developed business-to-business sales expertise within the fleet and government vehicle markets, and has created a competitive advantage with core competencies in make-to-order vehicle fulfillment and mobile service support.

“GEM provides Polaris with an established position in the low-emission small vehicle market and supports Polaris’ strategy of penetrating on-road market segments poised for growth,” said Scott Wine, Polaris chief executive officer. “We are excited about the outlook for growth within this market space, and are looking forward to developing even stronger growth prospects for the GEM business.”

“Our vision is to accelerate profitable sales growth for GEM, by combining Polaris’ strength in new product innovation with the most-recognized brand in the low speed vehicle market space,” said Mike Jonikas, Vice President of the On-Road Vehicle Division. “These new product efforts for GEM will be supported by an expanded distribution presence within select domestic and international markets.”

The agreement to acquire GEM will officially close within the next 60 days once Polaris secures the required state sales certifications to sell GEM products.

During this interim period, since Polaris will not yet have officially acquired GEM, operations will proceed as usual and Polaris will continue to learn and understand the GEM business through information exchange.

Following this interim period, Polaris will be in a position to outline specific plans for the GEM business.
