Introducing Authentic Quebec – Part 1

For those of you looking out your window right now and wondering where all the snow is, we’re here to let you in on a little secret. It’s in Quebec… big time!

In fact, Quebec is having one of their best winters in years and recently I had the opportunity to visit and put some glorious miles on the trails in the Lanaudiere and Mauricie regions, now named “Authentic Quebec”.

My brother Mike, Vern Putzer and I flew into Montreal, rented a car and drove 1.5 hours north to a little town called Sainte-Emilie-de-L’Energie to spend our first night at an exquisite French-Canadian inn called Auberge du Vieux Moulin.

Auberge du Vieux Moulin, opened since 1995 is a family owned and operated business with Dad (Yves) heading up the kitchen (he’s a certified Chef), Mom (Sylvie) taking care of the dining room and most administrative duties while the 3 children do a bit of everything, since they have all been formally educated in hotel management.

This is no ordinary place to stay, it’s a truly unique experience from the moment you spot the beautiful wood buildings from the highway off in the distance to the time you regrettably have to check out.

Completely designed and built by the owners themselves, they have captured an ambience filled with warmth and charm that gives you a comforting sense of “home” as soon as you walk through front doors.

The rooms all have fireplaces and each encapsulates its own personality and magic. This year they have opened another building with 4 luxury suites. They’ve got an assortment of activities to sample as well when you’re not snowmobiling.

You can take a dip in their gorgeous indoor pool and hot tub, skate on the outdoor rink, visit the elk and deer in the Auberge’s own wildlife preserve, get a treatment at their on-site Spa, sit by the fireplace with a nice a glass of wine and eat some of the best food you’ve ever tasted. We kid you not!

This is the ideal place to begin your Quebec snowmobile adventure as you can rent snowmobiles right on site and hit the perfectly groomed trails literally from the door of the Auberge.

We’ve been coming back to Auberge du Vieux Moulin for years and it keeps on getting better each time we visit. If you’re one of the smart ones and visit Auberge du Vieux Moulin, we want to hear about your experience.
