Byers Announces Retirement from Snowcross

0

It’s that time of year again when the temperatures start to drop at nights meaning winter is coming! People are already in the winter mood and thinking about snowmobiling, especially after the kick off to winter at Haydays this past weekend in Minnesota.

Normally this time of year the Byers Motorsports Team is in the midst of talking with sponsors and getting the back side of racing lined up. This year is different though. After a lot of thought since last seasons finale, Byers Motorsports has decided to take a step back with Pro Racer, Jamie Byers retiring from racing the CSRA National Circuit.

“It was a long hard decision to retire from full time racing after 11 years. It seems like all I’ve known for my winters since I was a young kid.” Jamie said reflecting on his decision. “It was tough pulling out of Horseshoe Resorts season finale last winter thinking that this may have been my last time racing at the event with the friends and family of the CSRA. It was time to step away from professional racing and start concentrating more on the future and am grateful that I am still healthy.”

Jamie started his racing career in 2003 at Horseshoe Valley Resort aboard a 2002 Polaris ProX 440 fan and was instantly hooked after that weekend. His first Full Season was 2006 where he battled for the Junior 2 Championship finishing 2nd overall.

The following year was a bad year for Jamie when he was landed on top of at the Season Opener luckily only breaking his jaw thanks to his TekVest. Jamie returned for the final two races finishing 2nd in Sport Open at both events before moving into the Semi-Pro (now Pro-Lite) class.

In 2009, Kyle Byers #109 joined the team to compete in the Sport classes finishing 2nd overall in Trail Sport his first year. Kyle competed for 3 years before retiring in 2011. In 2010, Jamie had a great season placing on the Podium at the end of the season, 3rd in Semi-Pro Regional Stock and Open classes.

Jamie’s breakout year was 2012 where he won multiple event finals, placing 2nd overall in the stock class at the Grand Prix de Valcourt, and to top it off, claiming the Pro-Lite Stock & Open class National Championships. In his inaugural Pro season, Jamie clinched a Podium finish at the Amsoil Kawartha Cup.

“Looking back on our past seasons we’ve had a pretty good go, had fun and enjoyed a lot of time with my family, friends and sponsors. I have some pretty great memories from my career that I will never forget.” Said Jamie. “I cant thank my family enough for their support over the years along with all of my sponsors that have stuck with us over the years and the ones that have recently joined our team the past couple years. Without our sponsors we would have likely had to make this decision a few years ago.”

Although the team is stepping away from racing, Rob and Jamie are staying involved in the snowmobile industry helping out with the Orillia & District snowmobile club which Rob is already an active member of.

Once again we’d like to personally thank all of our sponsors: Tom Jr, Sr, Ben, Brad and the late Bill Rader of the Polaris Racing Department for building great race sleds; The Lester Family from Supertrax Media; Bill, Brian & Betty from Dayco Belts; Rob, Casey & Butch from Amsoil; Jeff C & Jeff F of Gamma Sales who has been there for us from day 1; Mike & Larry from Woodys Traction; Don & Cam from Creecher’s Design for the killer graphics; Randy, Paul, Terry & Brad from Powermadd; Todd from EVS Sports protective gear; Eric of CV Tech/AAB; Dwayne & Natasha from Clean Media promotional; Steve from TekVest; Team Advanced for their help behind the scenes & the CSRA Family.

Hay Days 2014: Annual Trip To the Cornfield

We’re in the middle of packing for the annual pilgrimage to Minnesota for the kick-off event of the snowmobile season – Hay Days.

The Sno Barons’ Hay Days event is now located about an hour north of the Twin Cities (off 35W). Honestly, it’s the must-attend event of the approaching snowmobile season.

Approaching may be an overstatement. After all, it’s only the first weekend after Labor Day and the last weekend of August wass still summer. In any case there’s no pathos for anyone in the media business who misses this important and unusual event.

Anyone who’s anyone (or thinks he’s anyone) is going to be there. If a new aftermarket product has a chance of making it, it’ll be at Hay Days. If the OEMs have new sleds – and they do – they’ll be at Hay Days. If there’s a new race team or a rising sno-X star – guess where they’ll be this weekend.

What’s interesting is how much business goes on before the public is allowed into the jinormous facility. Friday’s an exhibitor-only day and is where the action is before the legion of gate paying, snowmobile hungry consumers show up on Saturday.

Not being at Hay Days can be a real problem if you’re on the inside of the sno-mo-biz. New people are rolled out, new strategies are unveiled and dinners and lunches are served to the media at a rate that’s quite frankly, heroic. If you’re not there, you miss out on one of the best face time opportunites of the year.

So, our truck is leaving with our booth in tow and staffers ready to set it up when they arrive. Supertrax Magazine – the sport’s most widely circulated snowmobile enthusiast publication and Snowtrax Television, the sport’s longest running, most watched snowmobile television series will be on site at our regular location. Our staff enjoy meeting our readers and viewers and quite frankly, it’s a wonderful opportunity for you to be tangible to us and that means everything in this biz.

If you’ve never made the trip to Hay Days, it looks like the weather this year is going to cooperate. We haven’t even mentioned the jibungous swap meet or the all weekend long sno-mo-drags and other forms of motorized mayhem. Hay Days is a gearhead’s paradise and we’re pretty sure you won’t find a single vendor selling deep fried tofu.

These are all good reasons to take in the strangest, yet arguably hands down largest snowmobile extravaganza of the year.

See you on Saturday!

The Farmers’ Almanac Predicts Colder Winter

The Farmers’ Almanac is predicting a colder winter for much of the nation this year. The publication has been predicting the weather since 1818 and touts an 80% success rate.

The 223 year old chronicle of climate – The Old Farmers’ Almanac (a different publication from the Farmers’ Almanac) predicts a super cold winter in the Eastern two thirds of the country.

In the words of the author of the Farmers’ Almanac, “We should look at this upcoming winter as not just colder – but think of it as a Refriger-NATION.” This is a substantively different forecast than the global warming crowd is putting out!

The Farmers’ Almanac historically publishes this time of year, enabling farmers and others to order enough heating oil, wood for the wood burning stove and salt for the roads. It’s best to prepare for the real winter that’s coming!

Normal precipitation is expected over most of the US and Canada, and the Farmers’ Almanac has noted that the first 10 days of January will be a time for active wintery weather featuring heavy amounts of snow.

This looks like a great time to be inventorying your sweaters, your snowmobile clothing, your boots, your socks and think about purchasing a new snowmobile!

This winter should be a fun one for outdoor winter enthusiasts!!

As a member of the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations (CCSO), the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is pleased that a portion of the $10 million trail funding investment from the Federal Government will be available for infrastructure improvements to Ontario’s snowmobile trails.

This investment will renew the Federal Government’s partnership with the National Trails Coalition (NTC), founded in 2007 by the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations, the Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council and the Canadian Trails Federation, and will also build on previous trail projects funded by the Government of Canada under Economic Action Plan 2009.
