Polaris Poised to Dominate Race Tracks This Winter

0

From the high flying track at the Canterbury Snocross, to the high speed action of the I-500 and the ultimate challenge at the Jackson Hole World Championship, Team Polaris racers are ready to dominate, with three race-ready weapons at their disposal.

The 2021 600R is the latest iteration of Polaris’s dedication to technology development, and the dominance of the INDY XCR and RMK Khaos are the result of that technology across our snowmobile lineup.

“Over the entire history of the Polaris Snowmobiles brand, we have used racing to develop and prove out our high performance snowmobiles,” said Chris Wolf, President, Snowmobiles. “That tradition is strong today, pushing technology with the 600R, and demonstrating the strength and performance of our production sleds with the XCR and Khaos.”

2021 Polaris 600R Race Sled

The 2021 600R Race Sled continues on the proven, championship winning AXYS R platform for this season, with industry leading suspension and racer first ergonomics.

The legendary Polaris Race IFS and 136″ RX2 rear suspension, with the Walker Evans Racing Velocity shocks, are ready to tackle the toughest tracks race after race.

The narrow racer first bodywork, the inspiration for the all-new Matryx production snowmobiles, allows the racers to push the 600R to the limit, keeping them in complete control.

“The 600R is a proven, race winning chassis that leads the pack in handling and rider ergonomics. For the 2021 season, the powertrain was our primary focus, and that resulted in our brand new, purpose built 600 race engine” said Tom Rager, Jr. Polaris Race Manager.

With decades of developing industry leading engines, including the Patriot engine architecture, the all-new 600 race engine is purpose built for racing, with proven Polaris Racing technology.

The lightweight, low inertia powerplant features an all-new throttle body EFI system, lightweight crank and flywheel, new head and port design, and more. The result – a 10 horsepower gain at peak power, and a staggering 18 horsepower gain in the midrange over the previous 600 race engine.

Holeshots and top speed are greatly improved with the increased power output, and the low inertia, EFI engine brings throttle response to a lightning fast level. The new engine, paired with the 600R platform, will be a distinct advantage for Team Polaris racers this winter.

2021 INDY XCR & RMK Khaos

Racing provides the extreme conditions that are hard to replicate, and the ideal venue to develop and prove out production snowmobiles.

The INDY XCR and RMK Khaos production snowmobiles demonstrate this race ready performance and strength.

The XCR’s legacy in cross country racing is storied, and the 2021 600 INDY XCR is ready to write the next chapter. Walker Evans Velocity shocks, Polaris Race Technology spec brakes & componentry, and extensive strength reinforcements put the XCR out front.

The lightweight, rigid aluminum chassis of the RMK Khaos produces agile, predictive handling on the hillclimb course and in the backcountry. The power of the 850 Patriot and the Walker Evans Velocity shocks provide the power and response required to dominate the mountain.

“With the 600R and all-new race engine, the proven strength of the XCR, and the lightweight, powerful 850 RMK, it is going to be a dominating winter for Team Polaris.” said Wolf.

OFSC Benefits for Early Permit Buyers Starting September 1st

After booming sales of motorized recreational products across the province, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is anticipating strong demand for Ontario snowmobile trails this winter.

In anticipation of this growth, today the OFSC announced new benefits for Ontario snowmobilers as part of its overall strategy to ensure the health and safety of its members, volunteers, landowners and riders for the coming snowmobile season.

Focused on delivering the best possible trail riding experience across the province, the initiatives announced today encourage snowmobilers to support the OFSC provincial trail system by purchasing their 2021 Seasonal or Classic Trail Permit starting September 1st.

This early date is the first time in OFSC’s 53‐year history that snowmobilers can purchase trail permits and permit gift cards before Labour Day.

Fee Stability:

To keep permits affordable and encourage early buying, snowmobilers will benefit from fee stability. This means that 2021 Seasonal and Classic Trail Permit fees will not increase from last season. Early Bird fees will remain at $190 (Seasonal) or $150 (Classic).

These early fees are only available online at ofsc.on.ca from September 1st through November 1st, after which permit fees increase. Under Ontario law, Snowmobile Trail Permits sold by the OFSC under the authority of the Ministry of Transportation are mandatory for recreational snowmobiling on OFSC Prescribed Trails.

“Fee stability is good news for all riders, considering they have the opportunity to ride available trails, anywhere in Ontario throughout the winter,” said OFSC CEO Landon French.

Rider Advantage Bonus:

The OFSC is also providing a one‐time “confidence bonus” for snowmobilers who sign up for the Rider Advantage Program at the time of early permit purchase. This OFSC offer is redeemable towards the purchase of a 2022 Seasonal or Classic Trail Permit. Snowmobilers who sign up for Rider Advantage this September, between the 1st & 30th, may qualify for a bonus of $50. For those signing up for Rider Advantage from October 1 to 31, the bonus is $25.

The OFSC will apply the Rider Advantage Confidence Bonus for 2022 Seasonal or Classic Permits should snowmobile trails become closed this season as a result of COVID‐19 health guidelines. For the bonus to apply, such closure would have to occur before February 16, 2021 and continue for the remainder of the season. The appropriate bonus would then be applied to your 2022 Permit account.

The Rider Advantage Confidence Bonus provides reassurance to snowmobilers in these difficult times. But equally important, the incentive helps ensure that OFSC clubs and volunteers receive the funds required to prepare 30,000 kilometres of trails province wide this fall.

Through the purchase of a permit, trail riders each contribute to the overall operating cost of the entire provincial system to help keep as many snowmobile trails as possible available now and into the future.

“OFSC member clubs and volunteers will be going to extraordinary lengths to get our trails ready to ride,” Landon French concluded. “But they can’t do it without help, so we are urging every snowmobiler to support their efforts by purchasing a permit in September or October and benefit from the lowest permit fees and the Rider Advantage Confidence Bonus.”

*Seasonal & Classic permits subject to a $7.50 processing fee.

**the Rider Advantage Confidence Bonus must be selected at the time of permit purchase and if applicable, the OFSC will apply the bonus to your permit account for the 2022 season.
Terms and conditions available at ofsc.on.ca

Free App: In addition to early permit purchasing and benefits, the OFSC is offering snowmobilers access to a free, starter version of the Go Snowmobiling Ontario app. This app provides basic trail information similar to a printed trail guide for your mobile phone, as well as updates throughout the season. An upgrade to the PRO version of the Go Snowmobiling Ontario app with many additional features and capabilities is available for just $3.99.
In the coming weeks the OFSC will announce more plans and protocols to ensure the health and safety of volunteers, landowners and riders.

As this year’s Win Your Yamaha contest winner, Marc’s entire loan, trade-in difference, accessories, extended warranty and taxes were all paid back in full!

When asked about the process of financing with Yamaha Financial Services, Marc said “the no-hassle and low financing options, as well as the reassuring 36-month warranty,” had a significant impact on his decision.

Marc purchased a long list of accessories for his Sidewinder, including a low windshield, hand guards, side mirrors, and a more aggressive track to better suit his type of riding. OFSC Plans for Upcoming Ontario Season

As the voice of organized snowmobiling and a recognized leader for powersports tourism and recreation in this province, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is developing new strategies to ensure the health and safety of its volunteers, landowners and riders for the coming snowmobile season.

The OFSC believes these initiatives will deliver the best possible trail riding experiences for snowmobilers, while helping to sustain up to $3.3 Billion of snowmobiling-related economic activity that is so important to Ontario’s northern and rural communities each winter.

OFSC action on COVID-19 began on March 21st when its board of governors decided to close the OFSC’s 30,000-kilometre, provincial snowmobile trail system. For context, this unprecedented action occurred on the same day the Canada-US border shut down to non-essential travel, following the WHO’s declaration of a worldwide pandemic on March 11 and Ontario announcing a state of emergency on March 17.

Next, the OFSC initiated a series of very successful online “town hall” meetings to engage its 200 member snowmobile clubs. The purpose of this outreach included gathering input for appropriate health and safety measures to cover a variety of possible scenarios for trail operations this Fall and throughout the 2021 snowmobile season.

“Preparing, maintaining and grooming a system of snowmobile trails that comprises almost three times more kilometres than the provincial highway network is a very complex and expensive challenge,” commented OFSC CEO Landon French, “It is for us to act responsibly on behalf of dedicated volunteers who do the work, generous landowners who provide trails on their property, committed riders who purchase permits to fund trail operations, and willing partners who support all of these endeavours.”

Within this context, strategies currently in development by the OFSC for the 2021 snowmobiling season include:

* Ramping up the OFSC Rider Advantage benefits to offer additional incentives and savings for snowmobilers.

* Working with public health agencies to develop training tools for trail operations and trail riding protocols for snowmobilers.

* Connecting with local, regional and provincial governments to facilitate delivering the best possible snowmobiling experiences for Ontarians this winter.

* Engaging other stakeholders like tourism agencies, police, communities, hospitality operators, snowmobile manufacturers and dealers to share OFSC initiatives.

* Enhancing online systems & communications platforms for more effective sharing of real-time news, info and updates with all stakeholders.

* Re-evaluating OFSC participation in snowmobiling events, meetings and gatherings for the foreseeable future.

According to OFSC President Paul Murray, the Federation has already made the difficult decision to go online with its Annual General Meeting this September. “As one of the largest snowmobiling conventions in North America, taking this event virtual is a major undertaking,” he concluded, “but one we believe is necessary so that our club volunteers and participating partners don’t have to travel from all over Ontario for a multi-day, in-person meeting.”

Further announcements about these and other strategies to ensure the continued well-being of OFSC volunteers, landowners, riders and partners will be forthcoming as details are finalized.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is a volunteer led, not-for-profit association that acts as the voice for organized snowmobiling in the Province of Ontario.

LATEST ON THE CAT VS DOO PATENT LAWSUIT

0

It might be summer in North America but the relationship between Arctic Cat and Ski-Doo has gotten a lot cooler.

About a month ago the Canadian Federal Court ruled against Arctic Cat and awarded Ski-Doo approximately $135.00 (CDN) per snowmobile built over the past decade (beginning in 2014 and going backward) that uses patented technology the Canadian Federal Court Judge agrees is Ski-Doo’s property.

The number of snowmobiles affected (initially) is just under 21,000 units. In very rough terms this patent suit revolves around the pyramidal frame and engine cradle attached to the pyramidal frame.

Don’t get hung up on specifics because after reading the court’s statement we felt there was a lack of detail as to just exactly what this issue comes down to from a purely technical standpoint.

Let me make this statement again: This whole issue involves only Arctic Cat snowmobiles sold in Canada, not anywhere else.

It’s important to frame the issue with this reality. Here’s why. Part of the ruling states Arctic Cat dealers cannot sell any sleds in inventory (or build any more) that fall under the ruling. In fact, dealers can’t even use these snowmobiles.

From what we understand, Canadian Arctic Cat snowmobile dealers were sent notices from BRP requiring them to stop selling the applicable sleds. Further complicating the issue (if that’s possible!) is the reality the court has ordered Arctic Cat to present the number of units using Ski-Doo’s patented technology built and sold from MY 2014 to current. We assume this number will be added to the 21,000 units affected in the current ruling.

No doubt you have serious questions about how Ski-Doo will prevent Arctic Cat from selling snowmobiles in Canada. Dealers, in our opinion, are highly unlikely to “not sell” snowmobiles owned by their dealerships. In some cases this could cause irreparable harm to their businesses.

We contacted Textron and asked them for some clarity on this thorny issue and for a statement clarifying their official position so Arctic Cat owners and potential buyers can know what the future looks like. Here is Arctic Cat (Textron’s) statement released July 22, 2020:

“Arctic Cat Inc. respectfully disagrees with the court’s ruling. We will continue to provide service and support to our Canadian dealers and customers as we pursue further legal recourse in this matter, including appeals of the court’s decision and of any injunctions issued against the continued sale of our products in Canada. The ruling has no impact on sales through our U.S. dealers, distributors or retail outlets. We will have no further comment on this matter at this time.”

As of this writing there is likely much more going on legally between both of these industry giants. Textron is a near $15 billion company annually with reach into many diverse transportation businesses. BRP is a powerhouse powersports OEM with a reputation for innovation. This may come down to a battle of wallets.

We’ll update as more info becomes available.

TAIGA INTRODUCES NEW ELECTRIC PWC MODELS

Propelled by the strong response to its electric snowmobiles and premium Founders Edition electric watercraft, Taiga Motors is launching two new electric personal watercraft (PWC) Orca models starting at $15,000 USD.

The Orca ‘Sport’ and ‘Performance’ models are an important next step in Taiga’s roadmap towards accelerating sustainable exploration of the great outdoors for all.

Designed from the water up, these models redefine the recreational watercraft experience with silent operation, leading power to weight, hassle-free ownership, intelligent connectivity, and competitive pricing.

Powering the new models is the same evolutionary Taiga RADIX powertrain platform found in their TS3 electric snowmobiles. The shared powertrain architecture not only offers enhanced performance and reliability under extreme conditions, but also drives down costs across vehicle segments.

“It is exciting to see the intensive R&D behind our electric platform accelerating the rollout of new models. Alongside this, we have made great progress with our manufacturing partners to introduce Orca models at a lower price point sooner than expected,” explains Taiga CEO Samuel Bruneau.

The Orca Sport model starts at $15,000 USD, offering 120 HP while weighing just 533 lbs. The Orca Performance model starts at $17,500 USD, offering up to 180 HP and an optional 3-person tow sport package with instant low-end torque.

In the premium segment, Taiga offers a full Carbon Performance model starting at $24,000 USD, with enhanced drive dynamics and options for tailored color and material selections.

Redefining the personal watercraft experience

Orca is the result of years of testing with hundreds of users across lakes, rivers, and oceans to provide the best possible riding experience. The advanced plastic composite hull construction and compact design has enabled a lightweight watercraft that can accelerate to plane faster than any other PWC while remaining efficient and agile.

Riders and onlookers will enjoy Taiga’s whisper quiet ride and zero emissions in harmony with the pristine environments in which they operate. At full throttle, the Orca emits up to 20 times less noise than competing combustion PWCs.

Users switching from combustion engine models will also enjoy the zero-maintenance powertrain and the absence of refuelling for savings of up to $3,000 over 5-years.

Electric powered watercrafts have seen increasing interest, but high price points have limited accessibility. Price competitive with traditional PWCs, Orca offers discerning thrill seekers a no compromise solution to summertime adventures.

No more trips to the gas station, no more hauling fuel down to the dock or spills into the lake, and no more oil changes or winterization; Orca redefines the experience of owning a personal watercraft. Spend an afternoon on the water, charge overnight, unplug and repeat.

Orca Sport and Performance model deliveries are targeted to begin summer 2021 through Taiga dealers and can now be pre-ordered online with a $100 USD deposit.
