HIGH FIVE FOR TEAM ARCTIC AT SPIRIT NATIONAL

Press Release –

Five Wins and a Clean Sweep of Season Opener

Despite postponing the Spirit National ISOC Snocross race two weeks, the inevitable happened: Team Arctic racers collected the most wins in the biggest classes, including both Pro finals and two-of-three in Semi Pro. In other words, it’s going to be another long and disappointing season for the competition.

“Of the 10 classes comprising Sport to Pro, Team Arctic won five,” said Mike Kloety, Race Team Manager. “I’d call that a dominating performance. And I’d credit the preparation and hard work of our teams coupled with the performance and durability of our Sno Pro 600 race sled.”

Tucker Hibbert’s reign over the Pro class continued as the Arctic Cat/Monster racer won every heat and final in both Stock and Open with his customary combination of speed, control and sled preparation.

Hibbert’s strongest challenge came from Team Arctic’s Dan Ebert, who took the holeshot and led the Pro Stock final for six of the 20 laps before settling for second ahead of Christian Bros. Racing’s (CBR) Garth Kaufman, also on an Arctic Cat.

Matching Hibbert’s outstanding performance was Factory Team Arctic racer and first-year Semi Pro, Cody Thomsen, who swept the Open and Stock #2 finals en route to an undefeated weekend (Note: ISOC allows Semi Pro racers to enter two of three classes: Open, Stock #1 or Stock #2).

Logan Christian of the CBR team showed strong speed and conditioning to move within striking distance of Thomsen in the Open final, setting up what will likely be a season-long battle between them.

Add to the mix Thomsen’s new teammate, Kyle Pallin, who took second in Stock #1 (and appeared one additional lap away from winning), and looks poised for a heavy haul of hardware.

As if winning four of the top-five classes weren’t enough, Team Arctic/Sportech racer Andrew Carlson’s victory in Sport Stock #2 and third in Stock #1 proved two things: He’s the guy to beat for the class championship; and the Sno Pro 600 is a winner in every class.

“This is our third year with the Sno Pro 600,” said Kloety. “We’ve optimized the power, handling and durability to the point that it’s a turn-key winner. Add to the mix the on-track clutching support of Speedwerx, plus the knowledge and dedication of our teams’ crews, and the result is a top-to-bottom sweep like we saw at Duluth.”

The next race in the ISOC National Snocross Series is Dec. 18-19 at the Milwaukee Mile in Milwaukee, Wis. Go to www.isocracing.com for more information.

Byers Motorsports Team Update From Searchmont

Press Release –

This past weekend the Supertrax / Steadymate / Byers Motorsports Team travelled to CSRA season opener in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The race was originally scheduled for Dec 4-6 but was rescheduled due to the lack of snow, which this weekend there was no lack of snow.

The team unveiled its Retro ’79 RXL decaled (by Creechers Design) IQ’s for Fridays practice although it did not start until 3pm due to a heavy snowfall creating little visibility on the track.

Kyle Byers #109 had a great weekend racing in the Sport 600 class consisting of 39 racers. Kyle knew that he needed strong consistent finishes in his motos to make the final.

He got pinched out off the start in moto 1 putting him near the back of the pack into the first corner but battled back to finish 4th. In moto 2, Kyle’s Polaris IQ race sled hooked up and put him to the front and he held his place for 2nd. “There are a lot of good riders in the class and the hole-shot is going to be key in the final to get up front” said Kyle before the final. He did exactly what he had planned on doing and got himself into the top 5. On lap 3, Kyle squared up in a corner and got T-Boned by another rider and finished 8th.

#219, Jamie Byers’ weekend started off with the mod sleds in Semi-Pro Open. The day started off rough, as, in moto 1 Jamie got tangled up with another rider while in 3rd place and finished 7th. Moto 2, Jamie finished 3rd.

Starting in the front row for the final, Jamie didn’t get the best initial start but pulled the sled to the inside of the track and found a good line up the hill. The sled gained traction and pulled him into the Top 5 coming out of the first corner.

Jamie rode hard and led for 2 laps before falling back and had a come-off in the rhythm section at the bottom of the hill with the white flag flying finishing up 12th.

Sunday was the stock class for Jamie and had 29 riders competing for the 15 position final. He had a bad start and had to battle his way from the back of the pack to finish up 2nd in moto 1. “I would have liked to get a better start but I had a lot of fun picking the good lines and working my way through the pack” said Jamie after the race.

In moto 2, Jamie blew a corner finished up 9th. Placing 9th in moto 2 put Jamie to a back-row start for the final. His Polaris IQ and Woody’s traction products hooked up and he dove to the inside of the track once again getting him to the front. He had a strong race and picked the right lines giving him a Top 5 finish for 5th.

The Teams next stop is this weekend in Gaylord, Michigan for the Can-Am Challenge.

Polaris Racers Take Top Spots at Duluth

Press Release –

Polaris snocross racers crowded the podium in Pro Open and two former Pro champions rebounded impressively from injuries at the ISOC Racing AMSOIL Duluth National held Dec. 11-13 in Duluth, Minnesota.

Polaris racers finished 2-3-4 in Pro Open, led by second-place finisher Ross Martin (Judnick Motorsports) who missed the second half of last season with a severely injured hip. Martin showed he is back in top form on his Polaris IQ Race Sled as he was the runner-up in Pro Open at Duluth and finished fifth in Pro Super Stock.

In Pro Women Super Stock at Duluth, Kylie Abrahamson won both heats and the final to dominate the class almost one year to the day after suffering a season-ending broken wrist. She got her 2009-2010 season off to a strong start with her sights set on reclaiming the Pro Women’s title she has won twice before.

Another Polaris racer who ran strong at Duluth was Mike Bauer (Judnick Motorsports), who won Semi-Pro Super Stock 1 and finished third in Semi-Pro Super Stock 2.

Polaris Grabs Two of Three Pro Open Podium Spots

Martin was joined on the Pro Open podium by Levi LaVallee (Team LaVallee), who finished third. Robbie Malinoski (Amsoil/Air Force/Makita) ran strong in his first race with a new team and finished fourth as Polaris racers took four of the top 10 places in Pro Open.

Matt Judnick (Judnick Motorsports) finished ninth, while Andrew Johnstad (AMSOIL, Air Force, Makita) was 14th and Brett Bender (Hentges Racing) was 18th.

In Pro Super Stock, Martin finished fifth, Bender was seventh and Judnick was ninth.

Healthy Abrahamson Wins Pro Women’s Class

Kylie Abrahamson of Merrifield, MN, demonstrated she has returned at full strength from last winter’s injury-shortened season. At Duluth, she won the first and second round heats and the final in Pro Women Super Stock. Jennifer Pare (JFP Racing) was second and Nikiya Adomaitis (Colorado Sledstyle) was fifth.

Justin Tate won the Pro Plus 30 Super Stock class and four Polaris racers finished in the top 10. Joining Tate in the top 10 were Michael Berghorn (Sierra Motorsports) in seventh, Derek Krause (Feathered Gold) in ninth and Craig Hultgren (Hultgren Racing) in 10th.

Mike Bauer (Judnick Motorsports) won Semi-Pro Super Stock 1, a class Polaris racers dominated as six of them finished in the top 10. Chris Kafka (Team LaVallee) joined Bauer on the podium by finishing third, and the other top-10 finishers were Colby Crapo (Leighton Motorsports) in fourth, Derek Ellis (Star Performance) in fifth, Andrew Lieders (Lieders Racing) in sixth and Kyle Strandlund (Strandlund Motorsports) in seventh.

Bauer also finished third in Semi-Pro Super Stock 2, while Ellis finished fourth and Colby Crapo finished fifth.

Stephanie Schmidt (Schmidt Racing) finished second and Kendra Dallmann (LePage Racing) was third in Sport Women’s Super Stock, and Trevor Leighton (Leighton Motorsports) finished second in Junior 16-17.

Next Stop: Milwaukee

The Polaris snocross racers will be back in action this coming weekend at the ISOC Milwaukee [WI] Mile National, Dec. 18-19.

Four Ride Impressions After 100 Miles

0

By Luke Lester, Host of SnowTrax

Polaris RUSH

What an excellent ride! Its amazingly snappy 600 mill feels surpirsingly stronger than it should. Ergos are excellent, however I found that snow tends to accumulate on the back of my legs and blow up my back, which is likely due to the lack of rear tunnel area. Exceptionally flat handling. Very good wind protection with the accessory mid height windshield.

Polaris RUSH Specs

Dragon 800 Switchback

This is one STOUT motor! It pulls like a tractor and hooks up like one too. Typically excellent IQ chassis, ergos and handling. 4 injector 800 motor has a strange hesitation at lower mid throttle when the 2nd set of injectors kicks in, but overall the sled rides very smoothly. This one will be on my list of faves at the end of the season I’m sure.

Dragon 800 Switchback specs

Ski-Doo Backcountry X

This sled really surprised me. I had expected it to be tippy because its narrower than a standard XP, but it wasn’t. It handled flat, just like its wider counterparts and the ride was very good. It wasn’t perfect, but its not yet adjusted to my specs so I know we can get it just right.

Ergos are all XP goodness and that seat is great. Its so soft and tall. My only gripe is the windshield and handguard combo sucks and is super cold. Pony up for a bigger windshield right away. The motor is excellent, but I felt the throttle pull was maybe a bit lighter than last season’s 800.

Ski-Doo Backcountry X specs

Yamaha Nytro

This one was bare bones with no bells and whistles. Right up front I like how it fits me. Heck, I’ve always liked how Nytros fit and feel to sit on and ride. The engine is as good as I remember. It sounds amazing, pulls super hard and is ultra snappy. Handling was relatively flat and stable and much better than I expected.

I was surpirsed by how warm I was with that mid height windshield and hand guards. The only thing I wasn’t overly happy with was the ride, which I found a bit stiff. This could easily be remedies by softening up the shocks and springs.

That’s it for now, but there’s more to follow…

FINALLY THE SNOW HAS COME TO ONTARIO!

0

By Luke Lester, Host of SnowTrax Television

Well, its been a long wait, but the snow has FINALLY come to Central Ontario and more specifically, Haliburton County! It hasn’t snowed a lot, but don’t get me wrong, the ground IS white!

Here at SnowTrax, we don’t need much snow to get those first few miles on. I don’t mean to brag, but we do get free carbides and I feel no guilt scratching off the stockers on those first few runs.

For starters, the trails just a bit further North of the SnowTrax compound were covered in at least 14 inches of heavy snow. The lineup of riders and sleds consisted of me, Motorhead Mark (Publisher of Supertrax International), my brother AJ and our buddy Jordan.

We were riding a Polaris RUSH, a Dragon 800 Switchback, a Ski-Doo Backcountry X and a Yamaha Nytro (I’ll report on all of these in an upcoming editorial as well as on the show). The leader probably got the best ride and the freshest snow, but the sleds further back were actually getting pretty a smooth ride over well packed snow. Very realistic conditions and very little scratching with only the occasional rock hit.

Honestly, it was SWEET and after a long summer, I really needed to pull the trigger on 120 hp.

Outside right now visibility is almost at zero. The kids are all home from school and the snow is piling up at giggle-inducing rate.

I see way more miles in my near future and this is one of the many reasons I love living in Ontario.

TEAM ARCTIC SNOCROSSERS WIN EIGHT AT QUADNA

Press Release –

A Winning Start to the Regional Snocross Season

The first snocross race of 2009-2010 season is in the history books, and with it a return to Team Arctic’s winning tradition. With the postponement of the ISOC National Series until Dec. 12-13, a Regional ISOC race at Quadna Mountain Park (QMP) in Hill City, Minn., served as a tune-up for many Team Arctic snocrossers.

Eight class wins, including three of four Pro class victories, proves that only fine-tuning is needed to dominate the rest of the season.

Although many familiar Team Arctic racers stayed home, a handful of top National and Regional competitors were all the team needed to win the biggest classes.

With a victory in the National Pro Open class and third in National Pro Stock, first-year pro Dan Ebert proved he’s ready to win at the highest level. His teammate Kyle Pallin, a Semi Pro on the National circuit, won the Pro Super Stock final, while Matt Pichner and Cody Thomsen went one-two in the Pro Open final.

Racers who normally compete in the National Series are required to bump up to the next category at Regional Events, which is why Pallin, Pichner and Thomsen were competing in the Pro classes rather than Semi Pro.

Team Arctic racers decimated the Semi Pro Super Stock #1 final, with Jacob Muller leading a sweep of the top-four placings. And Wesley Sweeney took the win in Jr. 14-15, completing the top-down victory run for Team Green.

Winning finals in all major categories answered any questions about whether the new 2010 Sno Pro 600 race sled was as formidable as it was the previous season, and what fans should expect from the team.

“We believe we have many of the top racers and that our Sno Pro is a top sled,” said Team Arctic Race Manager, Mike Kloety, “But there’s always a question of what to expect at the beginning of each season. Our success at QMP proved that we’ve hit our marks for both talent and equipment.”

“Two of our new racers, Paul Bauerly and Kyle Pallin, came from another brand and showed an immediate, marked improvement. With all of our top racers ready to do battle at the Spirit National this coming weekend, we’re confident that Team Arctic’s winning tradition will prevail.”
